Presenter Bio's

Bruce Skinner, Executive Director, Washington Festivals & Events Association

Bruce Skinner was one of a handful of people who started selling festival and event sponsorship in the mid-80’s, and is a highly regarded consultant to business and the special events industry with vast experience. He currently is the Executive Director of the Washington Festivals and Events Association, after serving as the Chief Revenue Officer for the College Football National Championship Game held in Phoenix in January of 2016.

He is the author of the book, The Complete Guide to Selling Event Sponsorship, published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc., of New York, and is the founder or co-founder of five Rock n Roll marathons in Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, San Antonio and Nice, France.

He served as the executive director of the Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona, (1980-1990) and President of the International Festivals and Events Association (1990-2001). He also has served as the Executive Director of the Olympic Medical Center Foundation in Port Angeles – Sequim.

Jess and sara owen, Chocolate on the beach festival, owen marketing group

Jess and Sara are a husband and wife team and the owners of Owen Marketing Group.  You might know them from their “day jobs” as owner/operators of Ocean Crest Resort in Moclips Washington.  Jess, along with his family, have owned and operated Ocean Crest since 1953.  In 2009 Jess and Sara brought all the marketing, website and social media in house at the resort.  After trial & error, as well as many trainings, they grew their fanbase to over 11 thousand and made Facebook a real money maker for Ocean Crest.  Several years ago they started Owen Marketing Group, OMG for short, and have been helping festivals and small businesses bring their marketing in house, and make social media profitable.  OMG was recently recognized for their work at the WFEA for their work with Chocolate on the Beach Festival, winning several awards, including Best PR/Media.  Jess and Sara are pleased to be with you today to offer helpful insights on how to keep your vendors happy, keep them coming back, and levering their help to find new, strong vendors. 

Stephanie Allestad, Chocolate on the beach festival, Grays Harbor Fire District #8 Community Liason

The Chocolate Lady, as she is most often called, started the small community festival Chocolate on the Beach 10 years ago. Her other volunteer job is managing emergency preparedness for her fire department's jurisdiction, and working with Grays Harbor County's Department of Emergency Management. She is currently the county's CERT facilitator and serves on the board of the Washington Festivals and Events Association.
